So, if you enjoyed watching "Twilight" , its time you get hooked on to "The Vampire Diaries" tv series . In my point of view , tv series is still much better then watching a movie like vampire story. It some sort follows the "twilight" story line in the first episode, only thing its MUCH BETTER ! and its totally kick ass.

Fans of fangs and flight unite. Due to the vampiric craze that's sweeping the nation, The CW has unearthed an old book series by L.J. Smith called The Vampire Diaries and adapted it into a dreamy new teen soap drama. At the TCA Summer tour, Diaries creators Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson's Creek) and Julie Plec (Kyle XY), as well as the stars of the series Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Katerina Graham, sat and defended their product to a roomful of doubting critics.
Will the cultural zeitgeist of brooding bloodsuckers fade away anytime soon? "Hopefully not before September 10th," joked Plec. "Everything's cyclical," noted Williamson. "I still watch Lost Boys and get excited," he continued. Williamson went on to say that the comparisons to Twilight are inevitable, especially following the pilot. But seeing as how this series is sticking close to the book series (at least the first three) it was unavoidable since the beginning of the story deals with Paul Wesley's pale and beautiful vampire boy introduced as the new kid in school.
Williamson added that he didn't want Vampire Diaries to be a high school show. "We have the teen element," he explained, "but it's more of a small town show." The cast on hand had read the Diaries novels, but Wesley admitted that he went out of his way not to watch Twilight because he didn't want it to influence him. "If there are similarities to Robert Pattison's character so be it," stated Wesley. The actor went on to say that when he gets the script and then he just does his "honest, best portrayal."
Former Lost star, now Diaries regular, Ian Somerhalder was not on hand, but Williamson told the room that his sinister vampire character Damon is in every episode so far – just to set the record straight since his character isn't featured as prominently in the first Diaries novel as he is in the series.
